To be determined
What is a puzzle hunt?
A puzzle hunt (or "treasure hunt") is a fun, interactive event in which teams of players race to find and solve creative puzzles hidden in different locations.
What kind of puzzles will we be solving?
You can find last year's puzzles (and solutions) on this web site.
Will the puzzles be difficult? What if I need help?
First of all, the puzzles are designed for teams of 4 or 5 people. So, if you don't have an insight on a particular puzzle, there's a good chance one of your teammates might! Also, hints will be provided to any team that asks. We want to make sure all the participants have fun, regardless of their finish time.
How long will it run?
The event will start at 10AM and should take approximately six hours. At the end of the event, all teams will gather at a final location for a brief endgame ceremony.
Where is the start location?
The start location has yet to be determined. We will e-mail teams the exact starting location shortly before the event. It will most likely be in Old Town, Alexandria VA. Yeah, I know, it's not technically DC, but it's close!
Are there prizes?
Teams will be scored based on finish time, but there will be no prizes. We hope that the challenge of completing the event is enough incentive. However, if you wish to take the winners out for dinner or buy them a car or something, we won't stop you.
Is there an entry fee?
Yes—$30 per team, regardless of team size. (We think you'll have the most fun with a team of 4-5 but we will allow teams with as few as 2 people or as many as 6.)
If you can convince a new team to register for DASH 2, then we will reduce your entry fee to $20. Please let us know which team you referred and also have them mention you when they register. Let's all spread the word!
How do I sign up?
Pay online anytime before April 20. After your payment is complete, we will contact you by e-mail to get your team name and roster of players.
How do I pay?
Use one of these two convenient methods no later than April 20:
Can I register on the day of the event?
Sorry, no. We need to know ahead of time how many teams are playing so we can build enough puzzles for everyone.
Could the event sell out?
There's a chance, so register early!
What about bad weather?
The event will run rain or shine. If it looks like it's going to rain, bring an umbrella, a duck suit, and whatever else you think you might need.
Who is running the DC event?
DC Game Control is Todd Etter and Sam Freund. We are puzzle enthusiasts who for many years have played in similar events across the country. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to host DASH 2, and we hope to grow the community and offer many more events like this in the future. So spread the word!
I have another question.
E-mail DCA@playDASH.org and we'll do our best to answer it!
