What is DASH?

DASH (Different Area--Same Hunt) is a one-day, walking puzzle hunt which takes place in several cities across the country on the same day. The next DASH happens on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.

What is a puzzle hunt?

A puzzle hunt (or "treasure hunt") is a fun, interactive event in which teams of players race to find and solve creative puzzles hidden in different locations.  You may have heard of "The Game."  By comparison, DASH is a shorter event, takes place entirely on foot, and features easier puzzles.

Will there be any interaction with teams in other cities?

Yes!  Part of what makes DASH exciting is that you will be participating in a hunt along with hundreds of other teams in ten cities at roughly the same time. Therefore, we would like to introduce an experimental, optional, interactive piece to the hunt that would require someone from your team to use Twitter. Keep in mind, this is external to the actual hunt but just another way to have fun with other teams while you are playing.

In order to participate you will want to:

  • Follow our Twitter account:  @playdash
  • Tweet to @playdash your city, your team name, (and optionally, your favorite tv show) and add the tag: #playdash to your tweet
  • Once you search for #playdash you will be able to see who is participating. We encourage you to follow at least one team from each city.

When will this take place?

DASH 2 will be on April 24, 2010, starting at 10AM.

How long will it take?

We are shooting for around 4-6 hours

How many players can be on a team?

We recommend anywhere from 2-6 people.  If you want to go a little bigger, feel free, but bear in mind that even with 6 people, you may have some trouble giving everyone a chance to contribute to every puzzle, so you might have more fun by splitting into two smaller teams.

I want to play, but I don't have a team.

Go to this forum -,21.0.html - and add your information to the thread.  Then, look to see if anyone else in Austin is already on there, and if so, get in contact with them about joining up.

What is the entry fee?

$30 per team.

What kind of puzzles will we be solving?

You can find last year's puzzles (and solutions) on this web site.

How do I sign up?

First, fill out this registration form no later than April 20.

Next, pay your $30 registration fee using one of these options. If you wish, you may wait to pay until your registration is confirmed.
