What is DASH?
DASH (Different Area--Same Hunt) is a one-day, walking puzzle hunt which takes place in several cities across the country on the same day. The next DASH happens on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.
What is a puzzle hunt?
A puzzle hunt (or "treasure hunt") is a fun, interactive event in which teams of players race to find and solve creative puzzles hidden in different locations. You may have heard of "The Game." By comparison, DASH is a shorter event, takes place entirely on foot, and features easier puzzles.
How big does a team need to be?
Teams can be anywhere from 2 to 6 players, but the recommended team size is 4 players. The entry fee will cover all players on the team.
What if I can't find enough people to form a team
If you are looking for someone else to join in your team, either because you want a few extra memners, or because you don't have a team at all, post to this forum to help connect with others interested in playing DASH: http://forum.puzzalot.com/index.php/topic,21.0.html
What kind of puzzles will we be solving?
You can find last year's puzzles (and solutions) on this web site.
How much does it cost?
Registration is $30 per teams. One registration covers a team of up to 6 members.
How do I sign up?
Registration for DASH-2: Los Angeles is closed. But check back here for news about DASH-3
Join us on Twitter! Play our Twitter Puzzle!
Part of what makes DASH exciting, is that you will be participating in a hunt along with hundreds of other teams in ten cities at roughly the same time. Therefore, we would like to introduce an optional puzzle that would require someone from your team to use Twitter. This interaction is external to the actual hunt but just another way to have fun with other teams while you are playing.
In order to participate you will want to:
- Follow our Twitter account: @playdash
- Tweet to @playdash your city, your team name, (and optionally, your favorite tv show) and add the tag: #playdash to your tweet
- Once you search for #playdash you will be able to see who is participating. We encourage you to follow at least one team from each city.
Who's running this thing?
DASH was created by a consortium of puzzlers from around the country. The Los Angeles version of the hunt is being run by Dann Webster of Team Briny Deep/Nevermind the Balrogs.
Do I have to pay admission to get into Universal City Walk?
No. This event takes place at Universal City Walk, an outdoor mall that requires no admission fee (though parking can be expensive; see below). City Walk is right next to Universal Studios -- which does have a hefty admission fee -- but you will not need to go inside Universal Studio's for this hunt.
Where will I park?
Universal City Walk has lots of parking, but it can be pretty expensive ($10+ per car). If you don't feel like paying, you can take the Metro Red Line to Universal City Station and take the shuttle from the bottom of the hill on Lankersham to City Walk.
DASH LA does not officially endorse parking in one of the many spacious lots around the Metro Station and taking the shuttle up the hill. Officiaily, those spaces are only for people who are riding the Metro.
Who do I contact for further information?
Contact la@playDASH.org if you have any further questions.
