What is DASH?
DASH (Different Area--Same Hunt) is a one-day, walking puzzle hunt (similar to a SNAP) which takes place in several cities across the country on the same day. The next DASH happens on Saturday, April 24th, 2010.
Where and when is the event?
10am on April 24, 2010 will be the starting time/date for DASH 2 in Seattle, WA. Other cities may have different starting times.
We are starting in downtown Bellevue- the exact location will be sent to teams closer to the event.
How do I sign up?
Initial signups are full; You can use this form to sign up for the waitlist. We will send payment information to registered teams after registration.
Registration will be first-come first-serve- we will take the first 30 teams to register, and will have a waitlist in case more teams are interested than we can accommodate.
Could the event sell out?
Yes, we'll be accepting a limited number of teams. Based on past events, we expect to fill all slots. However, teams that aren't able to make it to the event proper may be able to participate in a beta test on April 3. If you're interested, contact email@example.com.
Is there an entry fee?
Yes- $40 per team, regardless of team size. Addresses to send a check were sent to all registered teams; alternately, you can use this handy Paypal button:
How many players can be on a team?
Teams can be anywhere from 2 to 5 players, but the recommended team size is 4 players. The entry fee will cover all players on the team.
How can I find more players to fill out my roster?
If you have a team member at Microsoft, you can use the puzzmate DL there. (Or send us mail, and we'll pass it on.) Also, you can use this forum thread to find players, or post your availability.
How do the other cities play a part in the event?
The other cities collaborated on the puzzles and logistics to make the event possible, so each city will see the same puzzles as in Seattle.
To make this interaction more real-time, we would like to introduce an experimental, optional, interactive piece to the hunt that would require someone from your team to use Twitter during the hunt. Keep in mind, this is external to the actual hunt but just another way to have fun with other teams while you are playing.
In order to participate you will need to:
- Follow our Twitter account: @playdash.
- Tweet to @playdash your city, team name (and, optionally, your favorite TV show) and add the tag #playdash to your tweet.
- Once you search for #playdash you will be able to see who is participating. We encourage you to follow at least one team from each city.
What happens if it rains?
You'll get wet.
No, seriously, what happens if it rains?
Seriously, you'll get wet. Bring gear appropriate for Seattle weather.
Who is the Seattle DASH GC?
Seattle DASH GC is a subset of Boxfort Brigands (Geoffrey Antos, Lauren Cohen, Greg Filpus, Michael Loughry, and Jeff Simmer), plus Cele Wolman and Stephan Mueller from SMRT.
