DASH4 Austin, TX
Event takes place at 9:00 AM on April 28.
What is Dash?
DASH (Different Area - Same Hunt) is a one-day, walking puzzle hunt that takes place in multiple cities across in the US on the same day (and roughly at the same time, too).
When and Where? Glad you asked!
Dash4 Austin will be happening at 9 am on April 28th. The start location will be the visitors center on the capitol grounds in downtown Austin.
How many on a Team?
Teams should be 3-5 people. Teams of other sizes are allowed but are strongly discouraged. If you have fewer than that, it will be difficult to solve the puzzles, while if you have more than that, it will be hard to have everyone working on a puzzle at the same time. If you're interested but can't find enough people, let us know and we'll try to set you up with another team.
How can you register?
To register for dash you can visit the main Dash page and click on the register button. All teams register on the same page and you can just put in Austin as the city that you are playing. If you are ready to register right now you can go to the page from here. Registration closes at the end of Saturday April 21st, so hurry and sign up! REGISTER!
How long is Dash?
It depends heavily on the experience of the team. Typical teams should expect to take from 5-8 hours to complete the entire hunt, but expert teams typically finish in 2-3 hours.
That seems like a long time, will we get any breaks?
Dash is set up to include breaks when you need them. We will be in an area that has avaliable food and drinks. The timing on the puzzles is how long it takes to complete each individual puzzle and between you can get snacks or stop along the way.
What if I haven't solved many puzzles before and get stuck?
Don't worry if you get stuck we won't leave you out in the warm Austin wilderness of puzzle solving. At each puzzle there will be a lovely volunteer just itching to help you with a clue to send you in the right direction.
If you want to check out what kind of puzzles you will be solving here are the ones from previous years:
This sounds like an outdoor and mobile event?
You are right it will be outside, in the daytime and require walking 2-3 miles over the course of the day. We recommend bringing some bottled water and comfy shoes. Sunscreen and proper attire for the weather is also a good thing to have with you.
Outdoors? What about rain? or snow? or gloom of night?
That question may have switch into the Postal Service commercial a bit, but valid all the same!
This is Austin and it is likely to be sunny but we do have a indoor contingency plan in place. The meeting place when announced will be the same and we will head indoors for a less mobile dash.
How much does the hunt cost?
The cost per team is $40. This may seem like a lot but if you have a team of four it is $10 per person. This money is not used to make me rich so I can go lounge of the beach. It is important to cover the costs of putting on the event.
Currently the fee will be paid the morning of the event when you register your team.
What do I need on the day of the hunt?
- Pen or pencil for each team member
- Bottled water
- Sunscreen (while several locations will have shade, keep in mind the event is all outdoors)
- Money for lunch (restaurants will be near puzzle locations throughout the day)
This sounds awesome, but I am very busy on April 28th?
That is okay! We need a few teams to test out the puzzles right before the event to make sure everything is hunky-dory and ready. If you would like to participate in that please contact the game controlers at email@example.com.
I have a question that wasn't answered here. What can I do?
You can get it answered by emailing the game controllers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
