How do I register?

How much does it cost?

Thanks to the UCD Computer Science department, if you have a UC Davis grad student on your team, the registration fee will be only $10 per team.  Otherwise, the price is $40 per team for anyone else. The money will go towards buying costumes, printing puzzles, and snacks/drinks for participants. Please submit payment via PayPal at the bottom of this page (and please be sure to include your team name, so we know who the money came from).

Where is the event?

The Davis DASH 5 will be taking place on the UC Davis campus and around downtown Davis. We will meet in the plaza north of the UC Davis Memorial Union, where the University Seal is located, at 10 am.

How long is the event?

The Davis event will start at 10:00am and wrap up around 5:00pm, Pacific Time. Experienced teams may finish faster.

What about the weather?

Please check the weather forecast the night before and come prepared. You will be walking and puzzling outside for much of the day. In the past we've had sunny days, but you never know!

How much physical activity is involved?

Expect to walk 2-3 miles over the course of the day. Davis is pretty flat, so you won't have to worry about hills.

What to wear and bring?

-RULER - this is essential
-Paper, pens and pencils - always helpful.
-Scissors, tape, Sharpie - often helpful.
-Clipboards, blanket - Many stops involve grassy settings without tables
-Smartphone/Reference materials - If you need to Google something and don't have a smartphone, feel free to ask Game Control for help and we will be happy to act as your Google proxy.
-Food and water - a few stops will be at/near cafes, but puzzling takes lots of energy, so stay well-fueled. Cash is also a good idea.
-Good walking shoes
-Weather-friendly attire.

How many people should be on my team?

The optimal size for a team is 3-5 players. More than 5 and it gets difficult for everyone to collaborate, we highly encourage splitting into two teams.

Who is Davis DASH 5?

This year's Davis DASH is hosted by Tarik Crnovrsanin of the Light Benders. Try saying that 5 times fast! Isaac Liao and Chris Muelder from the Light Benders and Scott Clark will be the GCs.

What if I want to participate but I don't have a team?

We have setup a google group for people to find teams: https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!forum/dash-for-teams.

I have a team but I'm looking for more people, where can I find them?

Check out the google group to find more people. https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups=#!forum/dash-for-teams.

I suck at puzzles. Should I still participate?

Of course. Puzzles are fun. There are multiple parts to a puzzle. In a team, you want people that can make the leaps and people with strong general knowledge. Having individuals with different skill sets will make your team better.

Can I has cheezburger?

Our route is planned such that around 12 o'clock your team will find themselves in downtown Davis where you can enjoy a nice lunch.

Why are the Light Benders so sexy?

I don't know voice in my head. It might have to do with our multicultural appeal.

How do I deal with bear attacks?

Just run faster than your friend.

I have another question, who can I ask?

Don't forget to read the DASH FAQ. Feel free to email any other questions to turokhunter[AT]gmail.com.
