London, UK

Event takes place at 10:00 AM on May 25.

Announcement: DASH in London!

DASH will be held in London for the first time on the 25th of May, 2013 (NB: this is one week later than DASH in North America), at a location in Central London to be disclosed soon.

What's DASH?

DASH stands for Different Area, Same Hunt. It's a day-long puzzle hunt that has become a spring tradition in North America, taking place in multiple cities on the same day. This year it will be spreading across the pond!

How do I participate?

Teams of 3–5 players can sign up on the registration page now! There is a fee of £25 per team to cover costs. Sign up with an email address you check regularly so that we can send important information about the event and about payment.

But hold on. This sounds a lot like a generic FAQ. I think most of your questions—"What are the puzzles like? Where are the practice ones? What should I bring?"—are answered on the main DASH FAQ and the DASH5 homepage.

What can you tell me specifically about the London edition of DASH?

Well, DASH's London HQ is looking for volunteers! We will need friendly puzzle enthusiasts to help run the event on game day. This mainly involves handing out puzzles (and hints) to solvers. If you're interested, contact us at london [at] playdash.org.

Also, periodic updates about DASH in London are tweeted by @playdashlondon.

Other useful information:

  1. DASH runs rain or shine, so prepare for inclement weather. Over the last 10 years, it's rained about 4 times on May 25th.
  2. Bring some puzzle-solving supplies, AKA office supplies (pens, pencils, clipboard, tape, scissors, 3-hole punches, fax machines...).
  3. We expect most players to have smartphones. If you are smartphoneless, Ground Control can be persuaded to do a moderate amount of Googling for you.
  4. The hunt will last between 4 and 7 hours, depending on how fast you solve, so you'll want to eat sometime during the event. There will be restaurants nearby but you may want to pack snacks.

If you have any questions, you can reach us at london [at] playdash.org.

Looking for a team?

If you would like to play DASH in London but don't have a team to play with, you can now look for one using a designated Google Group. Just join the group and post your request. The same group can be used by teams eager to have new players join them.

Alternatively, unaffiliated puzzlers may be interested in joining the DASH London team! You could solve the hunt just like everyone else at our dress rehearsal on May 11th, and/or help run the hunt itself on May 25th. If you're interested, let us know at london [at] playdash.org.

Captains' Meeting Announcement

Want to play DASH but not sure what it's like? Leading a team and want to gauge the difficulty of puzzles? Want to volunteer to help run DASH in May? Then come to the London DASH Captains' Meeting!

This is the first year DASH will be played in the UK, so in order to familiarize Londoners about the event, we are hosting a meet-up at The Carpenter's Arms (in W1) on April 27 at 1pm, lasting until at least 4pm. Drop by and join your future competitors for an afternoon of solving DASH puzzles from previous years. We'll provide the puzzles and answer any questions you may have about the main event in May.

All are welcome to attend, not just team captains! We appreciate email RSVPs at london [at] playdash.org but they aren't necessary. Just come find the people with all the funny papers solving puzzles and join in!

Also, for registered teams, the meeting is an opportunity to pay your team's fees (£25) in person.
