Davis, CA

Event takes place at 10:00 AM on April 26, 2014.

What is DASH 6?

Allow me to plagiarize our home page:

DASH (Different Area, Same Hunt) is a fun, interactive event where teams of players race to find and solve creative puzzles hidden in different locations in cities all over the world. From fictitious graveyards to s'mores designed in Morse code to music clips containing a hidden message, anything is possible to encounter when playing in the DASH puzzle hunt.

...and Davis is one of those cities! For more information, contact [email protected].

I've never puzzle-hunted before?

Don't worry we have three difficulty levels!  One for experienced puzzle hunters, one for beginners, and a new one just for kids!

Come and try it! Puzzles are fun. There are multiple parts to a puzzle. On a team, you can have people who make the leaps, people with general knowledge, and people who keep things organized. Having people with different skills will make your team better.

How do I sign up?

Click here to go to the registration page. You'll need a team name, contact information, and the number of players on your team. Registration closes about a week before the event, or when we hit our international limit.

How many players on a team?

Up to five players!  3-5 is usually best, because at that size, everyone can stay involved.  Bring whoever you'll have fun playing with, though.

How much does this cost?

Thanks to the generosity of the UC Davis Graduate Student Association, any team with a UC Davis graduate student plays for free!  Any team with a UC Davis undergraduate plays for $10, and all others play for $20.  If you've seen higher prices in advertisements, the price has gone down!

Payment information will be sent out to teams after they register.  Or, you can use this button:

Team Type:

Where does all this happen?

All around downtown Davis and the university campus!  We'll start at the plaza north of the UC Davis Memorial Union, where that big ol' seal is.

How long is the hunt?

About 6-8 hours, though experienced teams might finish earlier.  Check-in starts at 9:30 AM, the hunt starts at 10:00 AM, and we'll wrap everything up around 6:00 PM.

What should I bring?

  • Good walkin' shoes
  • Smartphone (We have an app!  iPhone/Android; details sent to registered teams.  Also useful for web searches.)
  • Pencils, pens, paper
  • Clipboards and a blanket (some puzzles are outdoors in grassy areas)
  • Water and food (or you can just give money to restaurants)
  • Weather-adaptable attire
  • Optional but possibly useful: Scissors, tape, colored pencils

How much physical activity is involved?

About 2-3 miles of walking, overall.  Travel time between puzzles doesn't count against your score, so you can mosey at your own pace and stop for lunch.

Who...who are you?

We are Jason Zhang, a UC Davis graduate student, and Paul Rundle, a UC Davis alumnus working at a local startup.  We stumbled upon the puzzle hunt community by accident two years ago, and now we're running a hunt!  Paul even wrote some of this year's puzzles, so if you don't like one, you can yell at him in person!

How can I find out more?

Don't forget the DASH FAQs! (Note: the puzzles in the archives are expert-level. Beginner and kids' puzzles won't be as hard.) If you have any other questions, feel free to send them to [email protected]. Happy hunting!
