Washington, D.C.

Event takes place at 10:00 AM on May 30, 2015.

Dash in Washington DC

This year's DASH will take place in Silver Spring, MD, conveniently close to the DC Metro Red Line. More details will be forthcoming soon.

DASH is a day-long walking puzzle solving event. If you choose to participate, you'll get to circumnavigate the parks and shopping of Silver Spring, all while working together as a team, wracking your brains solving puzzles involving wordplay, spatial reasoning, and pop trivia.

Wait, isn't the Washington Post Hunt the next day?

We'd love for you to join us as a warm-up to the Post Hunt! Our puzzles fall somewhere between the average Hunt riddle and the 3:00 Clue in difficulty. Instead of wandering around the clue sites at your leisure, everyone will be solving the same puzzles in the same order. Each site will be manned by a volunteer happy to clue you towards a solution if needed. See the FAQ for more information and example puzzles.

The total time will depend on how fast you walk, how quickly you solve, and how often you break for refreshments. We expect that most teams will solve all puzzles in 6-8 hours.

Teams and Expectations

The best size for a team is 4 players, but 3-6 players will be permitted.

There are three puzzle solving tracks:

  • "Expert" teams solve the full, unsimplified, version of every puzzle, and compete for a spot in the national rankings
  • "New" teams solve slightly easier versions of the puzzles. If you have never attended a DASH, BAPHL, or the MIT Mystery Hunt, and you've never solved puzzles more complex than a Sudoku, American Crossword*, or Paint by Numbers, this is the level for you.
*Or if you don't know there's other kinds of crosswords!
  • "Junior" teams must be a group of kids under 16 (age 10 & up recommended) accompanied by a chaperone who will not help solve puzzles. Junior teams solve simplified versions of the puzzles

Registration Fee

DASH charges a $40 entrance fee per team. This money will go towards permits, puzzle production, and other incidentals, such as our Eventbrite fee. If your team finds the cost of DASH is prohibitive, or if you have any other questions, please contact us at [email protected] and we will work something out.
